So yesterday was the big day... the first time I've been seriously clothes shopping since I started losing weight last April. I'm forty pounds lighter, and ready to face the dressing rooms!
My main motive was summer clothing, since I'm going to Florida for a week's vacation soon, and also new work clothes because the clothes I wear to work now are embarrassingly big on me. I ventured into Kohl's in the later hours of the afternoon, having spent the previous night staying up too late watching X Files episodes with my man, and had my head held high and a pretty positive attitude. I was mostly worried about finding a bathing suit, considering I haven't bought one in years and had no idea what size I might need... plus the thought of wearing a bathing suit, in public, makes my stomach twist and my mouth go dry...
But I'm going to be spending a week on beautiful Florida beaches and I can't possibly do that in jeans and t-shirts, not after all this amazing work I've done to shed the forty pounds that I've shed. This is a time to celebrate, to measure my success with garments, not just the scale. And I promised myself at the beginning of this excursion to buy a bathing suit this year, and dresses, and shorts.
So I went into Kohl's, determined to find some suitable summer clothes for my upcoming vacation and some work clothes so I didn't have to go into work tripping on my oversize khaki pants and feeling minuscule in my bulky large shirts. I managed to purchase some nice additions to my wardrobe and swept up some amazing deals in the meantime!
Here's my haul:
1. Number One is a pair of "Coral Sands" colored slacks with a leopard print faux leather belt. The belt caught my eye and also the price tag with the big 50% off emblazoned on it. These slacks are usually $60, I snagged them for only $30. They are the right length for me, and they are a size 22.
2. I'm not normally a skirt-wearing individual, and this particular skirt was only available in Small and Medium. I was nervous to try it on, but have secretly always wanted a Bohemian style skirt such as this. I'd prefer a more colorful one, but for my first ever long skirt purchase, I went with black seeing as it will match any top I put with it. I like the skirt, I fit the Medium size. I didn't want to push my luck and try Small, but I have a sneaky feeling, it may have fit! The skirt is normally $36, but snagged it for only $17.99.
Here's a pic of me trying on the skirt in the fitting room. I didn't like the fit of the top I tried it with, so I didn't get the top.
3. These are just bog-standard, run-of-the-mill black slacks, but the miraculous thing about them is that the length was absolutely perfect on me (being short and fat, it's so hard to find clothes that fit right without dwarfing you or making your legs look like tree trunks with all the extra fabric surrounding them) and they are a size EIGHTEEN. I have NO idea how I fit into the eighteen, this brand of pants must run on the larger side, but it made me feel spectacular that I could fit them. Bully for me for even taking an 18 into the dressing room! They were normally $38, but I got them for $11.40.
4. These are just shorts, nothing too fancy about them, and I actually didn't like them too much. but they were the shortest shorts I could find in my size, and they weren't expensive, so I grabbed them. I could have gone a size smaller, these are size 24, but they didn't have any left that were smaller. They are normally $40, I got them for $24.
5.I was glancing through the shoe aisles just for kicks, and having a quick look through the sandals. I saw these blue sandals and didn't think much of them until I saw the price... only $9.99! I never see shoes for less than $20 at Kohls! These are originally $49. They aren't usually my style, but the blue caught my eye and I tried them on and they were a perfectly comfortable fit. I think they will look great walking all over Palm Coast, don't you?
6. Lastly, is the dress I bought. I liked this dress just hanging on the rack and I liked it even better once I have it on. My only complaint is that the top is a bit boring, but I think next to the nice print on the bottom, it works. I love that the dress has little sleeves on it, because most dresses are spaghetti strap or strapless and I'm not all that comfortable with my arms just yet, so it was awesome to find a cute little dress that had sleeves in it that I was comfortable wearing. The dress was normally $40, but I got it for only $8. Here's a picture of me trying it on:
My only regret from the trip was not finding a bathing suit or more pairs of shorts or tops to wear to work, but all in all it was a wholly successful trip and I'm proud of the new sizes I could fit into, and also the sales I swooped up. I'm not much of a shopper, especially not for clothes, so I think I did a fantastic job!
Also, damn you, Kohl's for teasing the hell out of me... I was looking for red patent leather pumps about a week ago to go with an amazing outfit I actually DREAMED about wearing out to a club, and I saw the exact shoes from my dream on the Clearance rack at Kohl's... however... they were only in size 8, 8.5, and 10! I wear a 9 or 9.5, depending on the shoe's width. FML. FMLLLL. I wanted the shoes so badly, I even took a parting picture of them:
Today, I venture onward to Target, Old Navy, and Lane Bryant to continue my search for flip flops, shorts, tops for work, and a BATHING SUIT. The dreaded, dreaded purchase of a bathing suit. Wish me luck!
